FRANKENWEENIE Blu-ray 3D Review...

Today January 8th is the release of FRANKENWEENIE on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download!

From creative genius Tim Burton (“Alice in Wonderland,” The Nightmare Before Christmas”) comes “Frankenweenie,” a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new “leash on life” can be monstrous.

Genre: Animated comedy
Rating: PG
Release date: January 8th, 2013
Running time: 87 minutes

Director: Tim Burton
Producers: Tim Burton, Allison Abbate
Executive Producer: Don Hahn
Screenplay by: John August

Based on an original idea by: Tim Burton

A stop-motion animated film, “Frankenweenie” was filmed in black and white and rendered in 3D, which elevates the classic style to a whole new experience.

  •  Over 200 puppets and sets were created for the film.
  • The voice cast includes four actors who worked with Burton on previous films: Winona Ryder (“Beetlejuice,” “Edward Scissorhands”), Catherine O’Hara (“Beetlejuice,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas”), Martin Short (“Mars Attacks!”) and Martin Landau (“Ed Wood,” Sleepy Hollow”).
  • Classic horror films inspired several of the character names.

Frankenweenie is pretty awesome to watch in 3D. This is comedy with a little dark side as Tim Burton is so famous for. I loved the part when the kid had soda bottles attached to his back for a science project and tried to have them be rockets so he could fly. Needless to say it didn't work and he fell off the roof and broke his arm. It's kinda sad when Victors dog Sparky gets hit by a car and dies. Then while in science class Victor finds out that lightening could bring Sparky back from the dead. Victor digs up his grave and brings him back to life. But when the other kids find out how Victor brought back Sparky they decide to bring back their pets. Things don't turn out like they want and all their pets become giant monsters and terrorize the town. I thought the Sea Monkeys were funny, especially when they eat popcorn, it makes them get really bloated then they explode. The 3D technology in this film is amazing!

There are tons of special features too. I like the Original short Captain Sparky vs The Flying Saucers. It was pretty interesting to watch Minitures in motion: bringing frankenweenie to life. There is a Frankenweenie touring exhibit and plenty more!
