Black or White Blu-ray Review...

Oscar® winners Kevin Costner* and Octavia Spencer** co-star in this touching comedy-drama based on real events. When two grandparents, Elliott (Costner) and Rowena (Spencer), engage in a heated custody dispute over their beloved granddaughter, the ensuing legal battle forces them to confront their true feelings on race and forgiveness. Can people from two seemingly different worlds find common ground when nothing is as simple as black or white?

Our Review:

We really enjoyed this movie! Kevin Costner does a great job playing Elliot. A man that is trying to keep custody of his granddaughter after his wife dies. The other grandma is trying to get custody of the girl. They try to make Elliot out to be a racist alcoholic. He is far from a racist since his grand daughter Eloise is black and he's fighting to keep her. Ever since his wife died, he started drinking a lot. All of his loved ones are telling him he is drinking too much. I liked when the math tutor helps him to learn a new language. They decided this would be a great distraction. So Elliot decides it's time to stop drinking and he takes up french.

I felt bad when Reggie (Eloise's dad) comes back in the picture just to ask for money from Elliot who gives him $25,000 to get cleaned up. Reggie takes the money but still is involved in drugs. He breaks his little girls heart when he is suppose to come over for dinner and never shows up. I loved seeing how much Eloise loves her grandpa and wants to stay with him. Everything works out in the end and Elliot gets to keep custody.

The Blu-ray has a bonus feature called Shades of Gray: The Making of Black or White that I really enjoyed watching also.

With Mother's Day coming up, this would make a perfect gift for that special mom in your life!
